Why It Matters

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of it’s powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”

-Joseph Goebbles

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton when she testified before congress regarding the Benghazi Terror attacks famously asked “What difference, at this point, does it make?” when asked about the source of the attacks.  The months and the hearings have dragged on and we are finally getting to hear from the people who were actually on the ground in Benghazi.  It is becoming more clear why it matters.

First and foremost it matters to the families that have sacrificed a loved one in the service of this nation.  They have a right to know if their loved one was left to die, why the decision was made, and who made it.  If you are unable to step forward and take responsibility for this decision then you should not be in a position to make this type of decision.  By the way, most Americans are not going to accept any excuses for leaving our countrymen to die.

It matters to those currently in the service of this country.  They need to know that no matter what they will receive the full backing of the government when they go into harms way.  This goes for the military, CIA, and members of the Foreign Service as well as to individuals who may be assisting us overseas by providing much needed human intelligence.  We also lose credibility with our allies, if we won’t back up our own people why would we stand with them.  Only religious fanatics go on suicide missions, the rest of us are going to expect the government to cover our six.  You may not be able to help us but you damn well better make the effort.

It matters because when the administration’s power becomes more important than the welfare of the people there is tyranny.  When the majority Fourth Estate is in your pocket and you can utilize the immense power of the IRS to help silence your critics you obviously have no respect for the Constitution, the rule of law, or the American people.  When your skewed “America is to blame” world view does not fit a given situation you use your main stream media lap-dogs to spin the story to help you avoid any loss of power or responsibility.  Terrorism is not just using a specific weapon, it requires committing a violent act to send a message, political, religious, or otherwise.

The Obama administration clearly doesn’t have a clue.  The clueless mainstream media is starting to come around.  Still those who are seeking the truth are vilified for doing so by those who are seeking to cling to power.  Meanwhile Americans die overseas and at home because of politically correct policy and politics.  And they all matter.

Terrorism and War

Watch the video below.  It amazes me that we still have people in this country willing to legitimize the terrorists.  These people want to kill us.  They wanted to kill us before we invaded Afghanistan and Iraq and they will want us dead for years to come.  They hate the United States of America and everything it stands for.  We need to remember that we are at war.  Despite the inability of the Obama Administration to call it a war, it is a war.

The intelligence and law enforcement community need to get it together to prevent terrorist attacks.  They have done a great job but clearly information is not being exchanged properly.  The congress needs to change the law so that U.S. citizens that commit acts of war can be treated as illegal enemy combatants.  The current law does not allow for this.  Here is a link to EX PARTE QUIRIN, 317 U.S. 1 (1942).  This is a case during World War II that allowed a U.S. citizen to be tried by a military tribunal as an unlawful enemy combatant.  The following is a quote from that case,

Citizenship in the United States of an enemy belligerent does not relieve him from the consequences of a belligerency which is unlawful because in violation of the law of war. Citizens who associate themselves with the military arm of the enemy government, and with its aid, [317 U.S. 1, 38]   guidance and direction enter this country bent on hostile acts are enemy belligerents within the meaning of the Hague Convention and the law of war. Cf. Gates v. Goodloe, 101 U.S. 612, 615 , 617 S., 618. It is as an enemy belligerent that petitioner Haupt is charged with entering the United States, and unlawful belligerency is the gravamen of the offense of which he is accused.

Remember that we are still at war despite the current administration.  Don’t be fooled into thinking somehow the U.S. has brought this upon ourselves.

Focus, Focus, Focus

I love listening to Dr. Benjamin Carson speak.  He is so calm and reasoned.  Frankly, he is an adult in a sea of whining children.  I just spent quite a bit of time tracking down a video of Dr. Carson on Fox and Friends because of one thing he said.  I have seen all kinds of headlines lately about gay marriage and other issues that I and I hope Dr. Carson would consider peripheral.  In the video Dr. Carson points out, however briefly, that if we destroy the U.S. economically then none of the other issues are going to matter.

While conservatism may be a three-legged stool, right now the economic leg is the one in the most peril.  I believe the media and the administration would lobe to distract conservatives with the social leg of the stool.  The libs know they will always have trouble with defense and economics.  They know they can distract conservatives with social issues.  I do not doubt the importance of social issues to some of you out there, you need to realize that if the economy is not fixed none of that will matter.  We cannot defend our country, internally or externally,  if we cannot provide economic stability and prosperity.  If conservatism can prevail economically that will open the door to social issues and defense.

Too Conservative?

Contrary to all the Sunday talk shows and pundits the Republican party’s problem is not being too conservative.  Candidates from the GOP get elected when they stand for something.  They lose when they get so middle of the road that we can’t tell the difference between the two parties.

The GOP has to be strong on defense.  That does not mean that they have to be strong on restricting individual liberties of American citizens.  Rand Paul’s filibuster was great in that it showed some backbone and got some attention.  It was great to see a real filibuster.  However, the U.S. has to be able to fight wars.  Obviously a U.S. citizen engaged in combat against the United States overseas is fair game.  I would definitely say that a U.S. citizen engaging in combat on U.S. soil against the United States would potentially be subject to violent actions. You have become the enemy and should be treated as such.  We should have a military capable of defending our country and ready to do so.  But I also understand Rand Paul and the more libertarian among us not trusting the government with power.  For those of you who thought it was silly, remember that Eric Holder was put in a position where he was compelled to clarify the administration’s position.

The GOP has to be for smaller government.  Thank God for President Obama, I don’t think anyone could better illustrate the difference between the right and the left on economic policy.  The distinction is clear, either you think the private sector and the people of this nation drive economic growth or you believe the government is the ultimate economic engine.  Obviously the current administration believes the latter and will continue their misguided policies unless the Republicans stand up to them.  This is very simple, no more taxes.  Cut the spending, balance the budget, and let the people get the economy going again.  You get more revenue when you allow the American people to be free.  I realize liberals have a one-dimensional view of the economy but reducing government regulations and taxes is actually how you produce more revenue.

The next election has to be about ideas.  Smaller government, strong national defense, and a strong economy with a primary goal of being energy independent and a fair tax code.  If republicans want to win they must own these issues and focus the debate.  They cannot fall into the traps the liberals place and they must fight when falsely accused.  If they do not do these things they might as well just join the other guys.  Matt Kibbe is right in the following video, ideas not demographics should drive the republican party.  Mr. LaTourette sounds like he is bought into all the left’s demonizing arguments.

Backbone

It’s very difficult to continue to write about the same thing over and over and over again.  But here we are talking about sequestration again so I will repeat what we all already know.  Conservatives and Tea Partiers are going to need to show some backbone.  Unfortunately with the confirmation of Chuck Hagel the senate, with the possible exceptions of Senators Ted Cruz and Rand Paul , is a lost cause when it comes to intestinal fortitude.

Bottom line, the Obama administration does not want to cut anything, unless of course it is some how related to national security.  They believe the only way to grow the economy is via the government.  They have no concept of how the economy works or who makes it work.  They want to grow the government and have control of as much of the nation’s economy as possible.  Let the sequester happen.  It is not a cut.  It is a cut in the rate of growth of government spending.  With all the hype the worst thing that can happen to the president right now is that the sequester comes and goes with no crisis.

News Flash to the conservatives and the Tea Party, the main stream media is never going to give you credit for anything good.  They are never going to support your positions.  They will always call you names.  Do not worry about getting reelected.  It amazes me how many of the republicans are listening to liberals telling them how to get elected or reelected.  What interest does any liberal have in seeing any republican, conservative, or Tea Party candidate get elected or reelected?  Why would you follow their advice?

Cut spending!  Lower taxes!  Grow the economy and shrink the government.  Ignore the MSM they don’t know what they are talking about.  You have two battles, the sequester which is actually a side-show to the big one at the end of March for the debt ceiling.  Stand your ground with a smile and watch the liberals squirm.  Don’t forget the government shutdowns in 1995 and 1996.  It was not the end of the world and standing on principle actually benefitted republicans.  If you give in now there really is no difference between the parties and you are obviously in it for the power.
